EMILY RUTH PERRY | VERITASKIDS DIRECTOR/ COMMUNITY GROUP MINISTRY ASSISTANT
ONE INTERESTING FACT ABOUT ME:
I was fortunate to travel a lot growing up; my family lived in Pakistan for a year while my parents were missionaries helping to build a hospital. We also went to China, India, and Thailand. We’ve traveled throughout the United States on a two-month long road trip and Europe throughout the years; the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, England. When I was in High School, we spent about two weeks in Egypt, and after college I spent about 2 weeks in India. More recently, I’ve gone to Honduras and Iceland. My family has really instilled in me that travel and service bring perspective in life. I would love to see more of the world in the future.
WHAT DO I DO HERE AT VERITAS:
I’m the VeritasKids Director and Community Group Ministry Assistant.
For VeritasKids, I do my best to love on our kiddos and VeritasKids workers and show them Jesus. I do that by organizing our curriculum (through the Gospel Project - really great resource for showing the Bible as one long story that points to Jesus) as well as working through and implementing our policies and procedures. I also put together our volunteer appreciation events.
For Community Groups, I help with different logistics and administrative needs for our Community Group Leaders; they already have a great weight on their shoulders by leading and serving our church community, so I do anything I can to help lighten their load! Also, I help new people get connected to Community Groups!
HOW DID I LEARN ABOUT JESUS:
I was raised in a Presbyterian church, and went to and then worked at an Episcopalian summer camp. I was a cultural Christian, but I didn’t know the gospel. I believed that being a good enough person and going to church would save me and get me into heaven.
During my late teens and early 20s, I strayed from any organized religion, and believed that all paths lead to God. Mainly, I was more concerned with my own wants and desires than God’s will and worshiped a god of my own making. Through a great deal of life struggle, contemplation, and fellowship with amazing Christian friends and my to-be husband, I came to understand that I was a sinful person and that Jesus was my only hope for being right with God. I’m so grateful for the Lord's grace, especially through my many years of wandering.
MY FAVORITE EXPRESSION OR PHRASE:
I say ‘right on’ and ‘no worries’ pretty often.
MY FAVORITE CUP OF COFFEE:
I am a tea drinker, actually. After my son was born, I tried to drink coffee for all of 2 weeks, and I totally lost my mind.
YOU WILL NEVER SEE ME WITHOUT:
My tattoos, I take them wherever I go. Most people notice my left full sleeve, but I have probably 15 or 20 total.
MY FAVORITE VERSE:
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” - James 1:2-4: This one is always a nice reminder when I’m going through tough times that there is purpose in my struggle.
