EMILY RUTH PERRY | VERITAS KIDS DIRECTOR

ONE INTERESTING FACT ABOUT ME:

I was fortunate to travel a lot growing up; my family lived in Pakistan for a year while my parents were missionaries helping to build a hospital. We also went to China, India and Thailand. We’ve traveled throughout Europe; the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, England. When I as in High School, we spent about two weeks in Egypt, and after college I spent about 2 weeks in India. I’ll be going to Iceland with my family the summer of 2016. My family has really instilled in me that travel and service bring perspective in life.

WHAT DO I DO HERE AT VERITAS:

I’m the Director of VeritasKids. I do my best to love on our kiddos and VeritasKids workers. I do that by organizing our curriculum (through the Gospel Project) as well as working through and implementing our policies and procedures.

HOW DID I LEARN ABOUT JESUS:

I was raised in a Presbyterian church and went to and then worked at an Episcopalian summer camp. These were my foundational experiences with Christianity, and I have many wonderful memories of Godly men and women. My parents and a number of our church members found a group we called the ‘church cookers.’ They cooked two meals; one they ate together at our home and the other they took to serve at the men’s shelter affiliated with our church. During my late teens and early 20s, I certainly started to stray. I was more concerned about my own wants and desires that God’s will. Through a great deal of life struggle, contemplation and fellowship with amazing Christian friends, I found my way back to Jesus. I’m so grateful for his grace, especially through my prodigal years.

MY FAVORITE EXPRESSION OR PHRASE:

I say ‘right on’ and ‘no worries’  pretty often.

MY FAVORITE CUP OF COFFEE:

I am a tea drinker, actually. Teavana makes an herbal called Caramel Almond Amaretti that is indescribably good.

YOU WILL NEVER SEE ME WITHOUT:

My tattoos, I take them wherever I go. Most people notice my left full sleeve, but I have probably 15 or 20 total.

MY FAVORITE VERSE:

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” - James 1:2-4: This one is always a nice reminder when I’m going through tough times that there is purpose in my struggle.
