Stand Alone

Fear and Trust - Psalm 27

The Psalms are much different from many of the songs that we sing in our church gatherings today. These songs are messy, filled with the writers emotions both positive and negative. We have much to learn from these psalmists about dealing with our emotions. As we see these writers deal with their feelings of loss, abandonment, insecurity, or doubt you can hear them reminding themselves about the faithfulness, works and attributes of God. This messy, up and down, back and forth line of thinking is much like our own. Join us as we walk through the murky waters of our own emotions seeking health from the only one who can provide, the God man Jesus Christ.

Mock Two Services - Volunteer Service Audio

This is the audio from our Mock Two Services on Aug 30 at 9am, "Volunteer Service." We took the opportunity to celebrate with eating some good food together, singing, answering questions, and ending in prayer. Pastor John Murphy spoke directly to the Service Team Volunteers about the Why behind going to two services and encouraged them that their labor is being used by Jesus to advance His Gospel right here in Fayetteville.

Partnership in the Gospel - Standing For the Truth in Love

Brian Recker, a pastor at One Harbor Church, spoke to us from 2 Timothy 2:14-26. In this passage Paul encourages us not to put our hope in trivial things but rather to stand firm in the truth, namely the gospel of Jesus. In the wake of certain court decisions about the definition of marriage, the disintegration of a moral majority, or the stampede of secularism we should be confident that the church flourishes in times of being marginalized. Brian charged all of us as believers to do the hard work of taking our own sin seriously and living on mission for Jesus. For, the greatest threat to the church is her own hypocrisy.

Partnership in the Gospel - Seek First the Kingdom

Bryan was ordained as an elder at One Harbor Church in October 2012 after serving as a U.S. Marine. In addition to regular pastoral care, he is responsible for supervising many of their church programs, ensuring that the vision, direction and requirements set by the elders are implemented and carried out.

Bryan preached from Matthew 6 where Jesus tells us to seek first the kingdom above all else. This may at first tempt us to increase our many reasons for being anxious, but Jesus lovingly assures us that as we carry out his mission, to make disciples of Jesus, he will take of everything else.

Did Not Our Hearts Burn - Luke 24:13-35

Guest speaker Lucas Parks, from Belfast, Northern Ireland, preached from Luke 24 about living the reality of the resurrection. If Jesus really did rise again from the grave then it changes everything! Just as Jesus opened the scriptures to the disciples and showed them all things concerning himself, so can we now see our lives in the light of Jesus who is seen clearly throughout the whole of scripture. But this begs the question, are you living in this amazing reality of a God who fulfills all of our desires or are you clinging to counterfeit saviors who will never be able to satisfy?

Church Planting Sunday

Church planting Sunday is not a break from our A Praying Church Series but rather an opportunity for us to continue to pray "your kingdom come" and see that through Jesus the "all the families of the earth will be blessed." From the beginning God's plan was that the gospel of Jesus was to be spread throughout the world primarily by the planting of churches that would be a blessing to the world by worshiping Jesus, being faithful to the Bible and planting other churches. Sharing our story as a church plant connects us with very first churches planted by the apostles.

We took the opportunity this Sunday to share about our partnerships with the Act29 Church Planting Network, the Summit Network, and the Bridge Church (also a part of the Summit Network). Also we formally announced our partnership with Village Belfast a church plant in northern Ireland. We are incredibly excited about what God is doing in and through our parters to spread the fame of Jesus.

The Gospel and Rest - Mark 2:23-3:6

This week pastor John Murphy preached on Rest, and if most of us are honest we do not really know what rest means. Rest is often either seen as the chased after at all cost  thing or seen as bad thing in our culture, but Jesus has something very different to say about rest. Jesus says that rest ultimately points to him.

Growth and Maturity - Luke 17 - Bryan Hart

Bryan Hart, the guest speaker for this week, is a pastor at One Harbor Church in Morehead City, NC. He spoke on growth and maturity out of the all to familiar Luke 17 "faith of a mustard seed" story. Bryan boldly challenged us with the truth that if we are are never admit that we are immature in our faith there is a good chance that we are truly immature. Growing in our faith is all too important because as we cling to Jesus as our treasure we can rest assured in the hard times of life he calls us to.

A Disciple Making Church - Nehemiah 3

What does an obscure text in Nehemiah about a wall being built have to do with discipleship in the church today? More than you think. We often shift the responsibility of the tasks we are given to "the professionals." This often happens with discipleship as well. We shift the responsibility to help disciple, instruct and love others to the "pro Christians" who can handle the task.

This obscure story about a list of people who did their part to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem points us to the truth that those people were significant in their insignificance to accomplish the task at hand. It takes a community of people, some of which who may seem insignificant, to disciple a person to walk with Jesus.

Evangelism - Acts 26 - Bryan Hart

Bryan Hart, the guest speaker for this week, is a pastor at One Harbor Church in Morehead City, NC. He preached from Acts 26 about how evangelism is often misunderstood and left to the "professional christians." We can learn from Paul's example that our motivation for sharing our faith does not come from our own gifting but rather through our right response to the work that Jesus has done.
