Meet Jacob

We have seen many new faces around Veritas Church! Praise God! We know that it can be hard to get to know leadership sometimes, so we thought that it would be fun to do a blog series introducing each staff member and a few fun facts about them. This week we want to introduce you to Jacob Warren, our Lead Pastor.

What first brought you to Veritas?
I led worship at Veritas’ first public worship gathering in September of 2013 and immediately fell in love with the people here. My wife Kylie and I then quit our jobs and moved down to join staff and help plant the church the following spring.

Tell us about your role at Veritas.
I serve as the Lead Pastor of Veritas Church, and with my particular giftings my role is unique. I lead the staff and elder teams while also preaching and leading one of the bands that lead worship during the Sunday Gatherings. I love the place that Jesus has brought me to with my role in his church and I’m growing more comfortable in the ways he has gifted me.

What are some of your hobbies?
I love to hunt, take my boys fishing, and go on hikes with Kylie (and I recently got a kayak). I also have a band that plays around Fayetteville that plays a lot of original songs that I’ve been lucky enough to write.

What’s your favorite beverage?
Either a cup of light roast coffee or a good unfiltered IPA.

What is the last fiction book that you read?
That Hideous Strength by C.S. Lewis, it’s a part of his fantastic space Trilogy. The first two books were better in my opinion but this book brings everything together.

Meet Sam

We have seen many new faces around Veritas Church! Praise God! We know that it can be hard to get to know leadership sometimes, so we thought that it would be fun to do a blog series introducing each staff member and a few fun facts about them. This week we want to introduce you to Samantha Metheny, our Executive Administrator.

What first brought you to Veritas?
When my husband and I first moved to the Fayetteville area in 2013, we began our church-search. We visited several local churches that we enjoyed, but we continued visiting churches while waiting for the Holy Spirit to let us know that we were ‘home’. After visiting Veritas, we knew that this is where God called us to stay! We moved away from Fayetteville in the fall of 2018 and returned in August 2020. It was wonderful to have a church family to step right back into when we arrived back.

Tell us about your role at Veritas.
I am the Executive Administrator for Veritas - our ‘behind-the-scenes’ staff member. I handle all of our communications avenues (website, church database, file storage software, social media, livestream team, etc.) oversee accounts receivable/payable, manage relationships with Freedom Christian and the owners of our office building, and several other boring things that require spreadsheets.

What are some of your hobbies?
I love weightlifting! It is so fun. I also used to own a photography business and still enjoy the occasional photo session just for fun.

What’s your favorite beverage?
Before 2p, a hot cup of black coffee (dark roast - light/medium roast is gross). After 2p I enjoy coconut La Croix.

What is the last fiction book that you read?
I am currently reading My Dear Hamilton by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie. This is my first time reading historical fiction - I’ve enjoyed it so far!

Meet Travis

We have seen many new faces around Veritas Church! Praise God! We know that it can be hard to get to know leadership sometimes, so we thought that it would be fun to do a blog series introducing each staff member and a few fun facts about them. This week we want to introduce you to Travis Fulp, our Director of Family Life.

What first brought you to Veritas?
A former employee, Kelsey Loring, invited me one day at work and said we should come check out a new church that she and her husband were attending. Veritas was about ten months old at the time. We stuck around because on the first Sunday we attended they offered free pizza after the gathering. Also, we stuck around because it was at Veritas we heard the gospel with new ears.

Tell us about your role at Veritas.
Director of Family Life is a fancy title that means I lead the VeritasKids and Veritas Youth, and also handle connecting first time guests with others at Veritas and assist in the partnership process.

What are some of your hobbies?
I love basketball. I love watching, playing, and discussing basketball. I recently took on coaching middle school basketball at Fayetteville Christian School.

What’s your favorite beverage?
Red Oak or black coffee.

What is the last fiction book that you read?
The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson

Meet Emily Ruth

We have seen many new faces around Veritas Church! Praise God! We know that it can be hard to get to know leadership sometimes, so we thought that it would be fun to do a blog series introducing each staff member and a few fun facts about them. This week we want to introduce you to Emily Ruth Perry, our Director of Community Life.

What first brought you to Veritas?
While attending the Summit Church, I told someone in leadership that my fiance was stationed at Fort Bragg. They told me about a small church plant they were affiliated with, so Trey and I checked it out. They had recently started meeting in a Crossfit gym; we thought it was pretty cool and we were bought in from that time on. That was winter of 2013.

Tell us about your role at Veritas.
I am the Director of Community Life; my areas of oversight are Community Groups and our Local Partnerships. Community Groups are one of the primary means of discipleship and fellowship within Veritas. For Community Groups, I help recruit and equip Community Group Leaders, as well as support them as they lead. I also help to get people connected with Community Groups.

Our Local Partnerships are organizations within the city of Fayetteville that are loving and serving people; those are Fayetteville Area Operation Inasmuch, Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity and Methodist University. These Local Partnerships allow us to come alongside leaders and organizations who are doing things well, and put our prayer, resources, and volunteer hours toward those efforts. I work with these partners to create opportunities for those who call Veritas home to love and serve the city.

What are some of your hobbies?
Is being a mother to two preschoolers considered a hobby? Well, when I do get a few moments, I enjoy: running and walking, reading, and watching movies with my hubby and boys. I’ve recently been getting into cooking healthier, but that is more out of necessity than a hobby.

What’s your favorite beverage?
For hot beverages, Chai tea. For cold beverages, flavored soda water.

What is the last fiction book that you read?
I’m slowly making my way through The Lord of the Rings for the first time, but I pick up other books in-between. Prior to that was The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I enjoy reading what are considered ‘the classics’. I like to form my own opinion about original stories that are often retold and adapted.
