SERMONS
At Veritas we are committed to preaching and teaching each week from the Bible about Jesus. Each week we post our sermons online for those of us who are unable to attend our weekly gatherings.
Jesus is still, to this day, calling people to follow him, be transformed by him, and make him known.

Seeing who Jesus is frees us up to be who we are. Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit to live in us to renew and baptize us daily. He helps us to taste and see that Jesus and His Gospel are good.

In John 1:6-13, we see that John's mission was to put on display the glory and majesty of Jesus so that all might believe in his name. His life was to be a faithful witness and give testimony of our Lord and Savior.

This week we are starting our series in the Gospel of John. In this study, we will be looking at the incarnate life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus verse by verse. He wrote this Gospel so that those who didn't know Jesus would see him and come to know him through the book and find life and salvation in his name. John 1:1-5 shows us that because Jesus is God, he has the power to give us new life in his name. Jesus is fully and truly God.

For the last week of gospel centered community we are putting what we have learned into practice by necessity. Due to recommendations by our governor we cannot meet in groups more than 100 so we are gathering in small groups to worship together through word and song. This week Ryan teaches that in order to carry out the mission of Jesus we must be a friend of sinners.

Real community happens when we walk in God’s light by confessing and repenting of sin to one another. Walking in the light is the way to gospel community and to gospel freedom.

We should humble ourselves for each other and look to the interest of others, because God has humbled himself for us. We humble ourselves by looking to the humility of Jesus and looking to the exaltation of Jesus.

The more we live into the reality of Christ's blessing, the more we will embrace a community that is marked with joy in Jesus. Romans 5 shows us that God has reconciled himself so that we can find our highest joys and deeper pleasures by knowing him.

We are called to love one another in deed and truth. We will never accomplish this how God intends, unless we understand how faith and the work of Christ provides the foundation and motivation for us to love others. Through Jesus, we have received acceptance, forgiveness, adoption and love from God that nothing can separate us from. When we receive God's grace, this is when we are able to love others as God loves us.

The gospel creates community by transforming us to begin treating others in the way that Jesus has treated us. Because of what Jesus has done, we have been given a new identity. Our life has now been hidden in Christ, so that whatever is true of him is now true of us. His life is counted as our life and his death is counted as our death. All that is his has become ours. We need to put to death what remains of our old life. In Colossians 3:12-17, Paul tells us to put on Jesus and his character and to put on Jesus and his gospel.

Community that is produced by the gospel is devoted to God’s word, life together, the Lord’s Supper and prayer. This gospel centered community shapes us deeper in the gospel, develops radical generosity and will display Jesus together.

We have been created for community, but we have also been re-created for community. Jesus died on a cross to bring us together to make a family. He restores and reconciles us not only to God, but also to each other. This is why community centered on the Gospel matters.

This week, speaker Ryan Ross introduces our 10 week series based off of “The Gospel Centered Community”. 1 John 4:7-12 tells us of God’s love and makes 3 distinct points. We should love one another because God is love. We are free to love others because he loved us first. Finally, loving one another shows off God’s redeeming love to the world.

It has become tradition to end the year as one big family. 2019 was no different. We came together, kids and adults, to be reminded of the fact that we’re called to serve others as followers of Jesus, but before we do, we remember all that Jesus has done for us. Out of that overflow of love, we love and serve others. Jesus gave us a reminder of that love when he instituted communion. Sometimes, we simply need to be reminded when we forget.

Jesus is more than a baby and more than just a king. He is the God of Heaven. This two year old baby is living a fully human life all while upholding the universe as God. He took on all that we are so that we can take on all that is his. He came to live a human life so that he can stand in our place. There is no news like the good news that he brings. Jesus is the true king who is worthy of our worship.

Jesus is God with us to save us. Jesus, who is our Savior, is the virgin born Son of Mary. We cannot save ourselves. If we are to be saved, God had to come and do it for us. He is not just a mere man, he is also the virgin born Son of God who is God with us. In fulfilling the prophecy in Isaiah 7:14, he was born of the virgin Mary and lived a human life, all while still being the Son of God. This baby boy is the same God who created the universe. He is God in human flesh. He is God who came to find us because he so loves us. He is God with us.
